Money Matters is a full-year, discussion-based high school elective designed to prepare students for real-world financial decision-making, long-term economic understanding, and personal stewardship. Grounded in biblical principles and supported by engaging literature, students will explore how values, psychology, and systems shape our financial lives.
Using a yearlong “avatar project,” students will step into adult roles—earning income, paying taxes, managing budgets, applying for jobs, making large purchases, and building credit. They’ll learn to think critically about money’s role in society, evaluate trade-offs, and apply practical strategies for budgeting, saving, investing, borrowing, and giving.
Major texts include The Richest Man in Babylon, The Psychology of Money, The Wealthy Barber, How to Money, Whatever Happened to Penny Candy?, The Money Mystery, and Uncle Eric Talks About Personal, Career, and Financial Security. Students are expected to complete 1.5–2 hours of reading per week outside of class, with in-class discussions linking concepts to real-life applications.

This engaging civics course explores the foundations of modern civic principles by drawing
connections to the political, social, and legal systems of the medieval period (approximately
500–1500 CE). Students will examine how medieval institutions, governance structures, and
societal values shaped concepts such as justice, citizenship, governance, and individual rights,
which remain central to modern democratic societies. By studying historical events, documents,
and practices—such as the Magna Carta, feudalism, the role of the Church, and early
parliamentary systems—students will uncover parallels to contemporary civic issues, including
the rule of law, representation, and civic responsibility.
