The Enrichment Program complements our Tuesday-Thursday Core program by allowing students to dive deeper into their core subjects and further explore God’s nature and world through the tools of science, math, logic, art, literature, music, and more.
Class offerings for this year's Enrichment Program are below.
Enrichment classes are included in the 5-Day program, and may also be purchased A La Carte.
Through the Kodaly method, students will learn the elements of music using the most universal instrument: the voice. This fun and engaging class will focus on rhythm, beat, pitch, and tone using the solfège, dance, folk music with games, canons, and stories.
9:00-10:15 Mondays & Fridays
This class will be theme oriented based on the songs and rhymes that we learn in the Music Fun class. We will use classic stories to build reading, writing, and thinking skills and enjoy hands-on activities.
10:30-11:45 Mondays & Fridays
This course will teach students the basic principles of art through Christian and historical lenses
Students will study the techniques of history's greatest artists, discuss the worldview of their paintings in a Christian context, and complete projects mirroring their methods.
Mondays & Fridays 12:15-1:30
Students will learn the basic fundamentals of classical ballet technique as a way to glorify the Lord through skilled and elegant dancing. Emphasis will be put on developing basic musicality, posture, and grace of movement. In addition, students will explore ballet’s French terminology as well as study a brief history of the ballet tradition. (Dance attire required.)
1:45-2:45 Mondays & Fridays
In this mythology class, students will explore Greek, Roman, and Norse mythologies through engaging readings like The Usborne Illustrated Odyssey, and D'Aulaires Norse Myths. We will read aloud, discuss the stories, draw parallels, and answer thought-provoking questions about each culture's beliefs and deities. Students will also develop critical thinking skills as they engage in basic writing exercises related to these fascinating tales.
9:00-10:15 Mondays & Fridays
This is a beginning theater class, which will teach students the basics of performance and will culminate in a short, original performance showcasing the students’ talents.
10:30-11:45 Mondays & Fridays - first semester only
THIS CLASS IS FULL
Enjoying plants, animals, sun and rain is how children first encounter God's grace in nature. Students in this class will explore and discover by getting their hands dirty and feet wet. They will learn to think creationally and creatively about the rich inheritance they've been given dominion over.
12:15-1:30 Mondays & Fridays
THIS CLASS IS FULL
Learn the engineering design process, be introduced to programming, and discover the power of simple machines and other mechanisms with LEGO Robotics. This is a team-based problem-solving class for 8-11 year olds.
1:45-2:45 Mondays & Fridays
Students may take either More Fun with Kodaly OR Robotics, as they are offered simultaneously.
Students will be introduced to Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, and engage in discussion of the text while learning the basics of Middle English grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. Students will partake in fun activities, such as drawing creative sketches of the characters and re-enacting scenes from the stories. They will also memorize parts of the General Prologue and practice dramatic recitation of the text.
9:00-10:15 Mondays & Fridays
Nature Journaling & Chaucer are held simultaneously.
Students of all levels can learn together. In this class students will learn the basics of stage performance including acting basics, verbal/non-verbal communication, non-verbal/verbal storytelling, scene work, improvisational acting, stage movement, simple choreography, and auditioning.
10:30-11:45 Mondays only
This course explores Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology, using works like Edith Hamilton's Mythology, and The Children's Homer. Students analyze myth integration in Rick Riordan's The Sea of Monsters, prepare for the National Mythology Exam, and delve into cultural, political, and philosophical aspects of studied myths. They also examine mythology's impact on modern society and enhance writing skills by retelling myths and creating original narratives.
10:30-11:45 Fridays only
This class is inspired by my students' enduring request to read more science fiction! We’ll hit all the major mediums: film, TV, books, comics, and short stories. Through this class, students will become careful readers of reality through texts, from the optimistic scientific utopia promised by A Trip to the Moon to the dingy and dusty frontier of Star Wars.
12:15-1:30 Mondays only
Inspired by Jorge Cham’s We Have No Idea, students will grapple with the major controversies of contemporary physics: What is matter? What is time? What is motion? In this pursuit, they will become familiar with ideas like matter, dark matter, elementary particles, dark energy, mass, gravity, dimensions, blackholes, cosmic rays, size of the universe and a theory of everything.
12:15-1:30 Fridays only
This unique cooking class brings the book "An Everlasting Meal" to life! Students will learn to make delicious meals using simple & unexpected ingredients while still being frugal and not wasting anything. They learn to appreciate God’s abundance by being good stewards of their resources. Students will be able to partake in the fruits of their labor at the end of every class.
11:45-1:30 Mondays & Fridays
Note: Intro to Science Fiction and Mysteries of Contemporary Physics conflict with this clas
God has created an interactive world filled with things to discover, explore, and build. The class aims to teach students a broad range of engineering information and then apply that knowledge to practical experiments or competitions. Students will engage in building, breaking, flying, drowning, and exploding all manners of contraptions in the effort to discover first principles about the world God has made and see for themselves the wonder of engineering.
1:45-2:45 Mondays & Fridays
The goal of the Speech and Debate class is to build winsome, articulate and confident communicators. Through a Team Policy Debate format and several speeches, students will learn and practice elements of researching and curating information, critical thinking and logical analysis, case building, and persuasive speaking. They will also have the opportunity to compete with other local groups.
