We take a one-room schoolhouse approach within age-integrated learning groups, incorporating modern methods of pedagogy for all types of learners. Student-to-teacher ratios are what make the one-room approach work. The integrated classroom also encourages students socially, spiritually, and cognitively.
Our students work through specific learning groups rather than in traditional grades.
All math classes and science classes are offered at a simultaneous time, which enables students to move to whichever group is working on those particular learning objectives.
We also limit classes and teach subjects in context. Our integrated humanities course has an annual theme that all learning groups are working through together. Humanities incorporates reading, writing, poetry, grammar, spelling, history, language, and Bible. Memorization is practiced through songs, skits, and games.
Science is learned through hands-on experiments at the early stages (where major concepts are practically realized), while older students learn important scientific skills through investigating God's world.
Classical input is given to each student and the expectation of output is based on their God-given abilities, which enables us to take students who are either accelerated, average, or delayed in learning. Structuring our learning groups in this way has been immensely successful!
We offer a robust academic program that is fun. Our goal is not only to teach students concrete concepts, but to do so in a way that fosters an intense love for learning. We accomplish this through story.
Minimal homework in the early years gives valuable time with family. We add homework as the students grow in responsibility, but our desire is to first foster a love for learning. Children also need to learn responsibilities outside of academics. Family time, work opportunities, and unique experiences are also integral to development and knowing more about God's world, and our three-day core schedule (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) affords important time for that.
The Monday & Friday option gives families with working parents or struggling students the ability to round out their education at Jubilee through additional arts classes, field trips and personalized tutoring.
TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & THURSDAYS
CORE HUMANITIES
We study the story of God's world and of mankind, learning about the image of God. We rotate through historical eras annually: Ancient Times, Middle Ages, Early Modern Times, and The Modern Age. This integrated Humanities core encompasses: History, Literature, Bible, writing through progymnasmatas, public speaking skills, music & art.
TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & THURSDAYS
CORE MATHEMATICS
Mathematics takes mastery to understand. This means that individualized learning is important in mastering these skills. We use a combination of integrated methods to build important skills, ensure comprehension, and master problem-solving. At the secondary level, we offer a robust integrated Algebra, Geometry & Trigonometry course that builds each student's skills.
TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & THURSDAYS
CORE SCIENCE
We study various scientific topics within each learning group, placing a special emphasis on hands-on science experiments as we explore God's world. At the secondary level, we offer courses in the Earth Sciences, the Physical Sciences and the Life Sciences.
MONDAY/ FRIDAY ARTS
WHOLE-PERSON LEARNING
We intentionally integrate music, visual art, and drama into our core classes, but offer a more intensive approach to these on Mondays and Fridays along with physical education.
